Through this badge, you will learn the basics of Sheltered Instruction and how to get started with using SIOP to support learning in the classroom for ELL's and all students.


Part 1A:

In This Task:  
You will briefly share your previous experience through interaction with the video, "What is Sheltered Instruction."

  2. Pay close attention to what components make up Sheltered Instruction (SIOP).

Part 1C: Practice and Application

Part 1D: Thinking About Planning


In This Task: 
Now that you looked at the basic components found in sheltered instruction, lets think how you could incorporate the basics into your lesson planning.  You will identify one of the four components of SIOP and describe a classroom activity that would be incorporated into a lesson or unit of study.
Your Task:
  1. Watch the video below
  2. Develop a lesson or enhance a lesson you've already taught to incorporate SIOP components

  1. You do not need to submit an entire lesson plan, however, be sure to describe how you would incorporate one of the strategies for SIOP into your classroom, lesson or unit.
