1. Would you continue to use Nearpod for delivery of instruction?
I would absolutely continue to engage the kids in nearpod activities! This is a great way to introduce and hook kids on new content by sharing visuals, videos, and eliciting prior knowledge through surveys and quick responses. It's also a great way to practice midway through a unit with hands on and interactive activities. Finally, it's a fantastic way to access knowledge gained throughout the unit with some interactive and engaging assessment/poll slides and multiple choice questions as well as drawing and writing responses!
2. What are the benefits of continuous formative assessment during a lesson in Nearpod?
Continuous formative assessment allows you to constantly and in real time gauge where your students are and if there is a breakdown of information or knowledge at any given point. the engagement level is high so kids are invested and want to perform well, giving a more accurate representation of knowledge gained.
3. What activities do you think are most beneficial for your classroom?
I think the kids enjoy the writing/drawing, polls, matching, and even the multiple choice activities. As long as I can read to them, all activities are really applicable and keep them on their toes.
4. Anything else you learned from this experience?
I feel as though I didn't give my class enough credit when it came to technology. I was worried about them all being able to log in at the same time, keep up with the slides presented, and interact appropriately with the device. I learned that having work displayed in front of the class is a big motivator to succeed and do your best. Even if your answer is not correct, your effort is celebrated and that's most important. Those that are adept at logins and typing automatically stepped up to help those that needed assistance. Having 20 kids on their ipads at the same time was not nearly as intimidating as I expected. I am grateful to have had this experience because it broadened my sense of what I can do with ipads and a large group of 6=7 year olds!
