Marissa Debo Item #3 - Takeaway

While reading the article, I was thinking to myself this all makes sense!  I'm so glad the university completed a study based on this.  Students are growing up with technology and need to use it but how can we use it efficiently and effectively.  Nearpod seems to be a super support/tool to support the most amount of learning and help stop distractions.

Shannon Walsh- Item #3- Takeaway

As I read the article about student distractibility and multi-tasking, this quote really stuck out to me.. "In order to maximize the educational benefits associated with technology, we should help students use devices smartly and leverage tools that mitigate distraction." Utilizing Nearpod in the classroom is just one tool that will be a great opportunity to show students how effective technology truly can be in their education.

I like the ability to share students' work anonymously; plus it limits multitasking, something I saw too much of during virtual teaching.

Nearpod makes sense as a way to channel the technology students love into a lesson while creating a connected community.

Item #3 - reflection

I just copied and pasted this passage from the article and sent it to my 15 year old. It's a total, "I told you so" moment for me. On his remote days he's got at least two screens in front of him. A work screen and a "something else" screen or his phone. It's usually music from YouTube or a chat screen of some sort. I listen to music while working but the visual distraction bothers me. I am trying to convince him to narrow it down to just one work screen.

"Evidence from psychology, cognitive science, and neuroscience suggests that students who use technology to multitask while learning or studying understand and remember less, become mentally fatigued, and have greater difficulty transferring what they have learned to other contexts."

I like the idea of using Nearpod to prevent multi-tasking during lectures.

Using Nearpod to prevent multitasking while learning had a positive impact on learning outcomes. It helps reduce the distractibility of students.

I found this article to be very interesting especially since this year I have used computers in class more than ever before.  One interesting take-away was that if students use technology to multitask than it can cause mental fatigue and they learn/ remember less.

Gisleson - Item #3 - complete

I liked seeing the difference on how well students retained information depending on whether they were multi-tasking with Facebook or staying focused via NearPod.

I was very interested in the sense of community that was described when using nearpod.
