It seems that the approach to Social Emotional Learning should be two-pronged, especially in it's earlier stages of implementation. While several SEL strategies could be incorporated into the curriculum I teach, mainly ELA and Science, it is also evident that students would benefit greatly from SEL strategies being taught explicitly. Making students aware of what social emotional learning is, and why it is important, would seemingly bridge the gap to practicing positive strategies in their classroom tasks and daily interactions.
