I have learned the importance of Social emotional Learning. The connectedness of students is clearly important for them to achieve success not only academically but in global sense. The world is complex and students need to be better prepared to handle what is thrown at them. I think a good starting point is to have students recognize their classmates body language, facial expressions and try to identify what it means. We have extremely low functioning students who these concepts are very grand and difficult to grasp. However whatever situation they are in, they will need to be able to appropriately react to the circumstances. Direct teaching of these skills is paramount.
