Analyze constitutional compromises

Subject/Unit:
Government, Unit 1 TEKS (G1.E) “analyze debates and compromises that impacted the creation of the founding documents.”
Learning Objectives:
Students will justify their opinion on whether compromises over slavery or structure of Congress had a greater impact on the United States.

Quality Questions
1. What’s the main idea of this video?
2. What are three details that support this idea?
3. Which has had a greater impact on the United States, the compromise over slavery or the determination of the structure of Congress (splitting into House of Representatives and Senate)?
Differentiation:
As scaffolding, students will be provided with an informational chart looking at two compromises from the Constitutional Convention (Three-fifths Compromise and the Connecticut Compromise).
Extension
Students will use Teams to participate in an online debate on the extension question (see #3 from Quality Questions). Students will respond with their own answer as well as responding to another classmate’s post with either a rebuttal to or an extension of their classmate’s post.

Addition to WW2 lesson

Provided resources links: One resource would be dbqonline. As it has resources for primary sources. Another resource is museumofworldwarii.org which displays artifacts from the time period which includes primary source documents. An additional resource is HLMC.org which provides a free virtual tour of the holocaust museum.
