What I learned through the ParaSharp series

After watching all the ParaSharp videos in this series, I know have a better understanding of my roll in the classroom. As a paraprofessional in the life unit, I understand all too well some of the challenges and difficulties some of out scholars can face. By watching these videos I better understand how behavior is often the result of certain stressors that are not always visual. I feel better prepared to enter the classroom with confidence and excitement to help teach and engage with our students. I learned how de-escalation works and how to maintain an appropriate relationship with our students as well as how to gain their respect as well as their trust in order to further help them in the future.

The ParaSharp Series was loaded with information on how to help and manage students,

In this series I learned about ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and how they affect children. I also learned about the Phases of the Crisis Cycle. Another topic in the videos was about Helping Students Build Skills. Just as important is being able to Think and Act Proactively so as to prevent some behaviors from starting.

These were only a few topics in the series but all together the information presented was very helpful. I feel more prepared and confident going into this new school year.

Parasharp summary

After viewing parasharp training videos I learned the many different ways paraprofessionals can impact a student and the way they work with students. Paraprofessionals attitudes can also determine the kind of relationship we will have with our students. It can also determine the amount of respect a student will have towards us. It reminded me to always be positive. This will help me have a great connection with the students. We need to show the students we are calm, positive and always be understanding. I also had a refresher on the IEPs and what can be expected when working with students with different needs.

sharing what I learned watching the para sharp series.

I would like to share what I learned on the Para sharp series.
I learned how to better read and offer help to kids who suffer from ACES
I learned how to better read escalated crisis situations
I learned that when a child is angry they need a certain environment and tone to calm down
I learned that each and every student has his or her own way of dealing with trauma and that even with all that confusion there are indicators that us as educators can identify to better help service the student.  There was a lot of information in these videos and I will probably go back and use this as a refresher in the future and as a reference guide to different situations we as paras have the pleasure of helping students work through.

As paraprofessionals we have a role to help engage students who may find everyday task difficult.

In this series I discovered that there are many ways in which a paraprofessional can be utilized in a specialized controlled room setting and in a general education classroom. As paraprofessionals we have a role to help find connections between students and teachers while filling guidelines to ensure our safety, the teachers and students safety. It is important to know how students may be classified in certain aspects and how to assist them in meeting goals given through IEP and BIPS also to know when a child can potentially entering a crisis cycle and the stages how to provide the proper support.

Evidence # 3

After viewing the Parasharp videos the training gave me a better insight on working with children of different diversities as well as having strategies when working in a classroom where students might put you in various situations. Being professional and setting boundaries as well as letting the students know although you are not their friend your someone who wants to see them grow and succeed. Being able to handle and manage crises better is always important as someone who works in a general education setting crisis tends to arise and learning how to manage and control is very vital. Although learned that maintaining a healthy distance and is important not just for us as educators, but for the students as well. I found this training helpful.
