Technology to Demonstrate Competencies

My Thoughts

Technology can be used in a variety of ways in order to enhance learning as well as have students demonstrate their knowledge in unique and challenging ways. This has been a big issue in regards to remote learning. Many teachers are worried that students will now be able to more easily cheat on assessments, especially those that are virtual learners. They can have easy access to other websites even in lockdown browsers because they have access to multiple devices. One shift that I have seen in assessment is trying to create assessments that are more open-ended and assessments that students simply cannot cheat on because they are demonstrating competency rather than answering true and false questions.

I like the idea of creating video and audio recordings as a way of assessing student competency. In my module for this course, and with my students, the final reflection requires students to watch videos from people I know around the world about their experiences learning about the holocaust. Then, students will create their own recording that talks about the experiences that they have had learning about the holocaust and how their geography has impacted their learning.
