Donors Choose Review

  1. Support Autism Students Love for STEM as the headline is the first thing I really like about this article. I like that it is specific to a disability and specific to a subject. Not only that, but even very unaware people know about the correlation between autism and stem. I do not condone everyone thinking every student with autism is rain man, but it definitely would help in getting seemingly random people to donate their hard earned money. The article itself starts off with not talking about the things that need to be bought, but the people they will be bought for. I honestly don't know what kind of people get on donors choose but assuming a lot of them are just regular people. There may be a little bit of too much jargon. Jargon can subconsciously make people feel like they don't know what they are giving too. I think she could be better served by focusing more on the individual students. How would little Tommy use one of the things to be bought and what do you think little Sarah could make with something else. I think overall this was a well done article and one that received its full funding
  2. The first thing I notice is that the page's “profile picture” is of the teacher and not of the students. I am in no way saying she is vane, but she is missing an opportunity to showcase her students. I also see one reason she could do this is because of the disability. ADHD is not a visible disability and for some people, if it's not visible it's not there. A lot of people see ADHD as just undisciplined children and I can see her trying to combat that some. She talks about the chairs being good for both students with and without disabilities. I think this helps a lot of people because they are donating to those they deem “less fortunate” and those that look their own children. This is a good way to bridge the gap and get more donors. Everyone knows wobble chairs help students burn off energy but the article does well to tell additional things it can do like improve posture and muscle growth. Overall I think she did really well for asking for just a few of one thing.
  3. Reaching Student Potential Through Sensory Play is the name of this donors choose. This one has now expired and never received any funding. I think this could be for a multitude of reasons. For one, there is no picture. I think people want to see the faces of those they want to make smile. Not only that, but that means people have to read everything about what they are donating too and people are lazy. I think the biggest mistake is putting the word play in the headline. People love kids and are very willing to spend money on them. However, people want to know they are helping kids. Kids having fun and playing is something everyone loves but i believe people are more likely to pay to help them have a chance at a brighter future. Overall I think there was a culmination of a lot of reasons as to why this teacher didnt receive funding.
