  1. In the description of the “Fairy Tale STEAM Kits” I really like how the teacher included that second graders begin to take ownership of their work. In some of my early childhood classes we have discussed the importance of guiding students to take ownership of their work to help them have a more meaningful experience with their learning.  I really would like to have read about an example of what the teacher plans to do with the kits. The teacher did include that the fairy tale STEAM Kits will help the students in the classroom have fun and be creative. I think it would be beneficial for the teacher to include an actual example of how the students will engage with the kits. Other than that, the teacher said that the kits will be stimulating and engaging for students. I just think it’d be helpful for us know what the “kits” consist of.
  2. The second DC that I found was from a high school teacher who is wanting art supplies and a mobile art display for her students because they only have so much wall space. I liked how this teacher stressed the importance of art. Reminds me of some discussions in my classes that, more and more art is being cut out of curriculum and schools. The teacher explained that at the end of the year there is a art show where students display their art and have the opportunity to share and talk about their creations with others. I like how this teacher included reasons for her supplies and the use of them. One of the projects she mentions, is the students are directed to only use sharpies to create a word portrait of some who inspires them. I think it would be helpful for this teacher to included what a “word portrait” is. https://www.donorschoose.org/project/grab-the-monet-and-lets-gogh-support-st/4752353/
  3. The third DC I chose to review is labeled “Flexible Seating”. As a future early childhood teacher, I know the importance and benefits of having access to flexible seating. Young children and even some adults find it hard to sit extremely still while completing work or listening. In some of my previous and still in my current classes, we have talked about that some students may seem like they are not paying attention to the material because of their “wiggles”. We know, that wiggling around doesn’t mean children cant can pay attention. As teachers it’s our job to help these students use appropriate tools to combat the “wiggles”. Flexible seating can help this whether it’s a wobble chair where it’s tilted like a rocking chair, or a squishy pillow like cushion. I think this DC is appropriate and will definitely make a difference in the teachers classroom as it will be lasting for this teacher throughout her career.
