"Use Student Lexile (reading level) scores to make a heterogeneous seating chart"

Description of Badge:

Context:  As a teacher I want students to sit in groups based loosely on their reading levels.  However, I want to group students heterogeneously by reading ability (e.g. Lexile score) so that strong readers are grouped with less strong readers.  This way students can serve as "helpers" to keep the group on task when reading a group assignment (e.g. suggesting pronunciations of words or explaining meanings of new words to other students).

Steps to complete this badge:

Step #1 - Obtain a current list of Lexile reading score levels for your students either through your student information, assessment, or reading system.  Alternatively, you could ask administration or school counselor or data/assessment to provide such information if it is not already readily available.

Step #2 - Group students into one of three different categories, high, medium or low based on the Lexile scores and cut-offs that YOU determine.

Step #3  Submit a document that contains only student's First and Last Initials (no full names!) Take a picture, screenshot, or PDF of this information.  Submissions that contain personally identifiable student names will not be accepted.  (This is File Upload #1 of 2)

Step #4 - Create a seating chart that attempts to place students in groups in a way that provides a range of reading abilities by group at each table, instead of grouping all of the advanced readers at the same table.

Step #5 -  Upload a screen shot, PDF, or photograph of your seating chart
