My position with the Virginia Department of Education T/TAC at Virginia Tech for the past 8 years is Coordinator/SIM™ Professional Developer.  I am to provide technical assistance to schools, so students with disabilities have access and are successful with the general education curriculum in support of obtaining a diploma for graduation purposes, as well as positive post-secondary outcomes.  In this position, I am also responsible for maintaining and utilizing my SIM certification in both Learning Strategies Curriculum and Content Enhancement Routines in the Superintendent’s Regions 6 & 7 of Virginia.  Furthermore, I have traveled outside of regions 6 & 7 to provide professional development in additional regions of Virginia.  I have not been given the chance to provide professional development outside of the state of Virginia, but if given this opportunity, I am willing to travel.

As stated above, my current position allows for time devoted to SIM™.  If I were granted the role of Professional Development Leader, my position would support this as well.  We held our first PPDI in our office June 22-26, 2015.  This was extremely successful, and we were supported for this event via the VDOE and our Director of T/TAC @ VT, Patty Bickley.  I will also be assisting on Day 5 with PPDI 2016 at the JMU Academy.  Additionally, my current position provides the monetary support of being able to maintain my certifications at least once every two years, if not every year depending on our budget for that particular year.  I have attended the International SIM Conference held in July for the following years:  2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, and I will be attending this year 2016.  I attended a virtual update in 2014.

My colleagues and I routinely submit post professional development records.  When we were initially providing professional development, participants completed a paper copy of this form, and we mailed them to CRL.  We now have the ability to record participants online now, which has made this much more efficient.  We are consistent with our record keeping.
