I attended this professional development on February 1, 2018.

The Concept Mastery Routine is one I can already see where to use in the PD I provide to teachers. There are a few terms in the science of reading that teachers continually confuse. Through this strategic approach I hope to bring more clarity and understanding of the concepts. In turn, I hope to motivate teachers to want to learn and use this routine with their own students.

I received professional learning in the Concept Mastery Routine in my 5th grade language arts classroom through TTAC. I feel using the Concept Mastery Routine will be an effective technique my content area classes, especially for my inclusive classrooms.

An inspiring experience where I want to do more. Being in SPED I can see this defining what all students and teachers need as a tool.

Content Mastery Routine could be especially useful with introducing difficult topics in science. There are many topics and terms that students may have some basic understanding (or misunderstanding) and this allows the teacher to facilitate. I am looking forward to implementing this in my biology classroom!

December 7, 2017 at Burns Middle School in Lawndale, NC Instructor Pam Leitzell

Completed on December 7, 2017 at Burns Middle School in Lawndale, NC with Instructor Pam Leitzell.
I feel that the powerful aspect of the Concept Mastery Routine is that it is applicable across all content areas. It will be so beneficial for students to transition from language arts and math and science - having one routine to follow.
It also helped teachers to identify a targeted concept and then identify important characteristics.
