We used this routine to review for our upcoming benchmark test.  We had finished with the concept a couple of weeks ago and wanted to review with our students.

It took us about 20 to 30 minutes to complete the form.  The students did a wonderful job overall.  We were especially surprised at their use of correct math vocabulary.

Student Devices Portfolio

Series on recognizing and using figurative language to enhance writing.

On three class periods over a nine-week span, I used the Concept Mastery Routine to provide instruction to a 5th grade inclusive language arts class in the use of figurative language to enhance writing. The topics of these lessons included similes, metaphors, and personification as literary devices that students would identify in reading and incorporate in their own writing.
