Wordy is great for developing speedy word recognition, context and critical thinking skills!

Use wordy as a way to encourage young readers and writers and even language learners to quickly recognize words given images for context. This app can be used to develop stories, or it can be a fun review/loosening up game. My favorite thing about words is that it even challenges me. Doing exercises like quick contextual word recognition can help our brains to recognize words and symbols faster, and it encourages critical thinking! I would even use this as a group activity and pit groups against each other in a fun competition to get students collaborating and working together to come up with answers. Have fun!

Extra info about my app review video

So, I wasn't able to use QuickTime player for my app review due to my poor timing skills, but I managed to create one with iMovie. I took screenshots of the different menu options the app had to offer. I recorded the video of David's tips to show what app users should aim to practice, and also myself playing with the app. I do hope this result works out. Hopefully I can learn how to better manage my time so I can try using QuickTime.

This is pretty much everything I mentioned in the video, but this is the script I was going off of

21st century upgrades: Requires students to create, by taking the pictures and putting them in the app, and to critically think about how each picture can work for each component of art
Content and componentsThis is is huge on personalization. You can only use your own images to create projects. It also allows users to publish their work straight to the app newsfeed or you can export it to Facebook, instagram, etc. For curriculum connections it's is not already pre programmed into this app. It is not necessarily educational but can be used for educational purposes. You just have to bring your own standards. For this instance I am using the first grade visual arts standard , standard one that states students must be able to name elements of art and use appropriate vocabulary. This app offers the freedom to mold it to fit your needs depending on your lesson.
Logistics:Limitations do not really exist on this app, it is totally free and does not have a light or trial version. Luckily there are no advertisements so students won't see anything they are not supposed to, however, when you go tot choose the songs students have access to the library so there may be a song that may have dirty lyrics. This app is very user friendly, it is easy to upload pictures and easy to adjust the speed of the video. As long as students know how to take and import photos, they will know how to use this app. The big problem is that inappropriate content may be accessible because it is a social media forum. If students search for someone to follow they can do that and may see something that is not okay for school.
Fluency. This app if very fluent. You upload, edit, choose speed and post. It's that simple and it's easy to share. If all the class is following each other then t is very easy to scroll through your newsfeed to see everyone's project.
Substitution Traditionally students would have to do this project by finding pictures in a magazine they would have to cut out and then glue on a sheet of paper stating what the element is. It's is a good substitute. It also augments it because it could improve focus by grabbing students attention bc of the ability to personalize. This modifys the original task as well because it significantly reduces the amount of work, i.e. Cutting pasting, searching  Evidence of learning : This app allows students to present ideas beyond traditional methods through a special media platform which is what is the norm now a days. It also encourages design by supporting creativy in personalizing your video

Additional explanation for Puppet Edu app

When working with the Puppet edu app, I began to have technical difficulties so I was not able to finish the video and talk about what I did and did not like about the app. Some of the pros on the app include the fact that it is kid friendly. It is also very easy for children to create a book on their own. Another thing I love about the app is the amount of options students have to express their creativity skills. The content is kid friendly. There is nothing on the app that I felt would be inappropriate for children. It meets the consideration requirement because it allows students to take what they have learned and apply it in their books. For content and components, students are able to personalize their own books and make them look the way the students like while also meeting the requirements. Under logistics, like previously stated, there is no inappropriate content on the app. The fluency for the app is really good being that students are able to move through the app easily. The app can be an alternative rather than having students create a paperback book. This way it allows the students to do hands on work while interacting with technology at the same time for the substitution vs transformation model. One students create their book, they are able to share it with the class and the teacher for evidence of learning. One thing I DD not like about the app is that sometimes it freezes up. Also, like in my video, sometimes the document takes a while to save the book, but of course no app is perfect. Overall, I really enjoyed working with the app.

Review of app

This app allows students to authenticate their project however they want. If a student is creating a stop motion animation over a book he/she read, they are able to create that story accordingly however they want. A student can also read the same book, but their videos could be entirely different or they could be somewhat similar. This app does not have any limitations. It is very user friendly, and is so simple that a kindergartner could use this app. There is no inappropriate display to this app. Within this app you are able to switch between other functions of the iPad. So for instance if you were doing a video over a book and the book was on your iPad, you are able to switch between the app and the book. The evidence for learning is clearly their video that they would create and turn in. The app does not necessarily allow depth for knowledge considering it is a photo-based app. same for participation. This would have to be done individually with this app.

Analyzing

I realized I forgot to discuss the idea of analyzing in the video. This app helps students analyze the information provided and decide how to place the information. For example, in the game I created with the math facts students have to look at the numbers and analyze what to do with them and what spot they go in. They have to use their prior knowledge of math facts and see what 2 numbers will equal the other number.

Extra Information

This app, EarthViewer, is a free app for the iphone, iPad, or other apple products. It is an app that allows students to interact with the Earth from millions of years ago. Students can get a clear visual on what the Earth looked like geographically, as well as look at the temperature and climate of the Earth. it is a really cool app that emphasizes exploration and gives students an opportunity to discover through exploration.
